About Kippa-Ring, QLD
A suburb of Queensland’s Moreton Bay Region, in the middle of the Redcliffe Peninsula, Kippa-Ring is located 27km from Brisbane. Kippa-Ring is a bare 6m above sea level, being largely a swamp area and is part of the local government area of the Moreton Bay Region, the state electorates of Murrumba and Redcliffe, and the federal division of Petrie. The area was originally designated as the commercial, retail and financial centre for the Redcliffe Peninsula. It has two prominent shopping centres, Peninsula Fair and Kippa-Ring Shopping Centre, which are located side by side.
The two industrial centres on the peninsula are located in Kippa-Ring and are a major employment hub for the area. Kippa-Ring is the terminus of the Redcliffe Peninsula Railway Line, with local services being a private hospital, a public hospital and three schools, two public and one private.
The traditional inhabitants and custodians of the area were the Kabi people. The name Kippa-Ring comes from their language; Kippa meaning an uninitiated man, and ring being a reference to the bora ring, an initiation ceremony. This suggests the original intent for the area.
Anzac Avenue, the main road servicing Kippa-Ring, is a heritage listed site. The road was the longest World War 1 memorial avenue in Queensland and the first bitumen road connecting Brisbane to Redcliffe.
How long does it take to build a home?
Generally, it takes around 26 weeks to build a single-story home, and 30 weeks to build a double story home. Also, there is an 8 to 12 week period before construction begins for the certifier and council approvals process, which customers typically use to finalise bank loans.
During an extension, can we still live in our home?
In most cases, you will still be able to live in your home during the extension, but it is dependent on the complexity and size of the project.
What insurance do builders require?
Builders will need to take out Home Owners Warranty Insurance to cover the homeowner, for any project which is valued at $20,000 or more.
They are also required to take out Workers Compensation Insurance to cover their workers against any injury sustained while at work.
Public liability insurance is also required for a set limit. It covers third parties legal for personal injury, damage to property, or even death as a result of actives connected to their business.
Who organises required council approval?
Builders Kippa-ring, together with your draftsman/architect, can assist in the planning approval process and organise it on your behalf. Your architect will be able to advise whether your project requires approval, and what approval is necessary – either a full DA (Development Application) or a CDC (Complying Development Certificate).
A home is most likely the most significant investment you will make in your life, which is why you need a qualified, professional, experienced and reliable builder. That’s where we come in.
