In 1939, Lawrence Dry Cleaners opened its first small shop in Ashfield, where the dry cleaning was carried out on the premises. This was to be the beginning of the fabric care industry for Lawrence. From this simple beginning, a chain of stores developed and continued to grow. By the mid-1950s, Lawrence Dry Cleaners operated from a large factory with sixty binding machines under one roof.
