Gronow Removals

The Gronow family originated from Wales, England, and were involved in coal mining. They immigrated to Australia in the late 1800s and continued in the mining industry in Ballarat, Victoria.

Eventually, they relocated to Prahran, Melbourne, where they operated a horse and wagon cartage company. They transported goods from the wharves in Port Melbourne to outlying areas of Melbourne.
From Prahran, the family moved to St Kilda, and went into the wood fuel merchant business. A short time later, in 1909, John Daniel Gronow established Gronow Removals & Storage.
The original address of Gronow Removals & Storage was 287 Inkerman Street, St Kilda, where you can still see the old stables that the horses lived in, and removal wagons were stationed.
