Best Builders in Dalby
In recent years, granny flats have exploded in popularity. They have come a long way from a converted backyard shed or garage. They now are brand new high-quality constructed highly functional living spaces which represent a miniature version of their own home.
A granny flat’s primary purpose is for a second dwelling on a property. They can either be attached to the garage or main house, or a completely separate structure.
In some situations, building a new standalone structure can be more cost-effective, as it doesn’t interfere with the existing structure of a house. It’s because of this they are now becoming more popular as an alternative to a renovation.
Granny flats are also smaller in size than your main home, and can only be a maximum of 60 square meters. There are a variety of different designs. They include dining and living spaces, three bedrooms and kitchen, or as minimal and small as having one large open living space which you can use as a space for hobbies, or a home office.
Granny flats are ideal for when the kids get older and want some privacy, for family or friends visiting for extended periods, or to rent out for some additional income.

During the granny flat extension, can we still live in our home?
In most cases, you will still be able to live in your home during the extension, but it is dependent on the complexity and size of the project.
What insurance do builders require?
Builders will need to take out Home Owners Warranty Insurance to cover the homeowner, for any project which is valued at $20,000 or more.
They are also required to take out Workers Compensation Insurance to cover their workers against any injury sustained while at work.
Public liability insurance is also required for a set limit. It covers third parties legal for personal injury, damage to property, or even death as a result of actives connected to their business.
Who organises required granny flat council approval?
Builders Dalby, together with your draftsman/architect, can assist in the planning approval process and organise it for your granny flat. Your architect will be able to advise whether your project requires approval, and what approval is necessary – either a full DA (Development Application) or a CDC (Complying Development Certificate).
